Preparation phase
Before arriving at the day of the exam, the rider who takes the gallop 5 must ensure that he has all the basics required for such a test. This then requires him to update his knowledge in the equestrian sector. He starts with theoretical lessons. At this level, he does not necessarily need an instructor. With the guide and some documents from the federation, he can succeed in his theoretical preparation precisely.
For the practical phase, the candidate is required to be followed by an expert. It is with him that he will discover some failures. Since the expert has also already passed the 7 gallops and is already a competitor, he will do exercises that he considers useful in order to raise the level of his student. It is all a question of confidence and complicity with the mount, on foot or in the saddle, standing or sitting, with or without stirrups.
Gallop 5: Theory
The theoretical questions are summarized in the different concepts acquired by reading the official guide. They concern the different types of snaffle bits, transitions, locations, obstacles, transitions and other details that are part of the life of the professional rider. Having been around them constantly or having practiced with them, the rider should not have difficulty giving the requested instructions. In addition, in this part of the exam, the candidate must go calmly to show his mastery of the concepts covered. He must also be careful to articulate properly without stressing out in order to be heard by the jury.
Gallop 5: Practice
Practice during this exam is the final knot. To undo it, you must call upon all your equestrian knowledge. To begin, the rider must demonstrate stability and confidence. To do this, without stirrups, he will have to move with his horse at the three gaits. This is required both indoors and outdoors. Progressive developments at a regular pace and the curvature of the horse and dressage, cross-country or obstacle movements are expected of the candidate. To make a very good impression on the jury, it is important to aim for a "flawless" performance. Thus, recommendations will flow at the end of the test, even if the candidates have to steer in the right direction.
The test does not only take place in the saddle. There is a good part of the practice that is done standing on foot for both the rider and the horse. At this level, the two accomplice companions must do tricks in front of the jury. At this stage, the horse's reactivity is the focal point. Even with long reins, it must understand its rider's instructions very quickly and comply with them. For this, the preparations must have been rigorous.
